so, my aunt is visiting and she blessed me with two fantastic anecdotes involving my little cousins (her grandkids) and what else am i gonna do except what i usually do when my little cousins do something great, which is share it
– the 6-year-old has juuuust about outgrown the car seat in my aunt’s car and she was complaining about how tight it is, and my aunt was like “i didn’t get a booster seat for my car yet but we’re just going around the corner” (my aunt’s and my cousin’s houses are like two blocks apart). when they stopped, the 6-year-old unbuckles the harness while muttering to herself “i can’t do this shit anymore” like she was a jaded adult with a mortgage and a day job
– the kids were asking why my aunt was sneezing and she said that she had seasonal allergies and they asked what that meant and she explained it as being “allergic to grass and things”. (side note: the 3-year-old has food allergies, including an extremely dangerous peanut allergy, so the adults in her life always try to stress how serious it is and how she shouldn’t eat any food she hasn’t had before without asking an adult to read the label first for her. so, both kids are at least familiar with the concept of an allergy.) after hearing that my aunt has an allergy, 6-year-old goes, “oh, like [3-year-old],” and 3-year-old indignantly shouts, “i no eat grass!” because in her toddler brain allergies only happen when you eat stuff you shouldn’t eat.
