The Great Bot Purge 2018: Tumblr Strikes Back

Warriors, comrades, amigos, today we have come together for one thing and one thing only, to purge the porn bots.

Before we begin I would like to take this opportunity to give my opinion on some of the observations you have made. LESS PORN BOTS in the comments. Some even state they find it increasingly more difficult to find bots in the comments. Before we celebrate, I will give three possibilities why this is happening:

1. Our purge is working
2. Reporting and blocking bots also shuts down all of their secondary blogs. A bot user often hosts two – three accounts on a proxy, but makes lots of secondary blogs to make it seem lots of ‘unique’ accounts are making comments, and not the same account 10 times in a row.
3. Bot users are mass deleting their posts so we can’t purge them, protecting their investment (proxies).

I like to remain skeptical and suggest it’s a combination of the three. This battle can’t be over before it has even begun. This is a siege. We flag their accounts and deplete their resources so they can’t create new accounts and buy new proxies. If it’s #3, then bot users are obviously aware of this blog and think they can save their ass by going into hiding for a day or two. Well, bots, I got news for you. 32,837 warriors have this blog on notification, and are ready to strike the moment you show yourself. Hard. And this is just stage 1.

Having said this, we march. Right now. Together. I have prepared a list. Yesterday night, there were at least three bot comments per post. If you don’t find any, spend five minutes going through comments on popular posts you find on your dashboard. Bot users often comment on 10k+ note posts so many people see their comments. If we all report/flag 30 bots today, we destroy a million bots.

The list is divided by zodiac signs. Purge the posts corresponding to your sign. Clicking the link will take you to the post. Posts were selected on # of bot comments and not on content. None of the links lead to pornographic content.

How to purge

We have two types of warriors in our army. Mobile (app) and desktop users.

Mobile (app) users:
If you are on mobile, your options are limited. You can only report comments.

1. Click on notes
2. Press or tap a bot comment
3. Select “Report”
4. Choose “Block"

Your task is to report as many bot comments as possible and make a statement to @support​ and @staff​.

Desktop users:
If you’re on desktop, your mission is to flag porn bot accounts.

1. Click on “Notes”
2. Click on the avatar of the bot blog
3. Tap the pawn/human icon report > report spam > Flag & Block
