You’re a ghost who can’t leave the mortal world since you still have unfinished business: you haven’t paid off your student loans.

Oh gods performing hauntings for money and no matter how hard you try it only gets bigger making it impossible stuck on earth for centuries by that point you paid millions into the bill and it is still there and by then you give up.

You’re not a ghost you’re in perpetual debt in hell. By then you form a union with other ghosts to raise money and pay off student debt before they die just so they could move on.

After a thousand years of paying off student debt you’re finally allowed to pass on because a student you helped out now works forthe bank. Turns out there was a spread sheet error. And you didn’t owe as much as they told you.

The ex student forgives your debt and then you can pass on. Others are forgiven but not the entire union of ghosts. But by then graduates and students lobby the government to get student debt removed from the dead.

The process takes years. Some citing that people have waited millenia after death paying off loans. Others saying it’s a just punishment for making a bad financial decision.

“If they didn’t want to be in debt for all of eternity they should have gotten better jobs while alive.” The senator says bringing his side around this issue.

It is a continuing stalemate until the senator dies. At death the senator now ex-senator is stuck on earth with his own debt to various lobbyists and banks. Struggling to pay it off but with their icon of “self-reliance” now struggling with the very problem he said was a choice.

All debt after death is removed as a result. The banks complain a few collapse dependent on the helpless dead to pay them to stay afloat.

But the result on the after life is immense millions are freed some go to hell, some to purgatory, others to heaven.
