My dog will never, ever fail to accept something from my hand, whether she actually wants it or not. Before I understood this, I assumed that when she took a treat or piece of food from me and trotted away, it was because she’d gone off to eat it. That’s why for two weeks, I’d convinced myself that she liked baby carrots. We went through half a bag before I discovered that she’d been depositing them all in the cat’s bed. “I’ll just put this where the garbage goes” was her thinking, I believe.
