okay the only thing in this thread I really need to debunk is that lighting issue with the instax camera. I have the same camera, and if you’ve never used one, it’s really difficult to figure out the lighting settings on it, and you have to play around a bit.

In certain indoor lighting, you can’t take a photo of someone from more than a few feet away, because they disappear into a dark, black background. It’s not weird at all that the hallway in the opened doorway from the other side of his apartment is totally black in the instant photo. And the totally black first photo? He probably just had the camera on the wrong setting.
